Dr. Mauroof Athique is one of the leading Ayurvedic physicians in the UK . He
qualified in Ayurvedic Medicine in 1967 from the Govt. College of Ayurvedic
Medicine, which is presently part of the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He
was among the first group of students to specialise in Panchakarma, which is the
flagship of Ayurvedic treatment modalities. He also studied Acupuncture, and
Homeopathy in Sri Lanka . Dr. Athique completed his internship at the Hospital
of Ayurvedic Medicine , Colombo , and during this period he was attached to the
Ayurvedic Research Institute.
Dr. Athique first came to Britain in 1969 to pursue a career in Nursing. He
successfully completed his nurse training at Central Middlesex Hospital , London
. His varied career has taken him to the Middle East and the United States ,
where he completed his MBA, and Doctorate in Education. He completed his MD in
Integrated Medicine in 1984. From 1990 until late 1998 he worked as the Director
of Pre-registration Nursing (Project 2000) at Nene University College ,
Northampton . During the last thirty years Dr. Athique has maintained the
practice of Ayurvedic Medicine alongside his other career commitments. He holds
several Ayurvedic clinics in London , Birmingham , Letchworth and Milton Keynes
for the College of Ayurveda (UK) Ltd.
As the Director of the College of Ayurveda (the only independent Institution
in Britain to train physicians in Ayurvedic Medicine) Dr. Athique is actively
interested in Ayurvedic Clinical Research and works intensively on several
projects with Research Institutes in India and Sri Lanka . Dr. Athique is one of
the founder members of the Ayurvedic Medical Association (UK). He is the
Ayurveda representative at the European Herbal Practitioners Association, and a
member of the British Holistic Medical Association, Homeopathic Foundation, Sri
Lanka , and the International Acupuncture Federation, Sri Lanka . Dr. Athique
was also an active member of the Herbal Medicines Regulatory Working Group. |
